About Heraklion Airport (HER)
Heraklion Airport (HER) is an international airport located in Heraklion, Greece. It’s located about 3.1 miles (5 km) east of the main city center of Heraklion, near the municipality of Nea Alikarnassos. It is equipped with two runways and one main passenger terminal. On March 18, 1971, the first charter flight from abroad (British Airways) operated at the airport. The new airport itself was officially inaugurated on May 5, 1972. It’s the hub for Sky Express and a focus city for Aegean Airlines, Ellinair.
